This Privacy Policy explains how VNTurtle ("VNTurtle," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the VNTurtle mobile application or website (together, the "Service"). VNTurtle helps users identify turtle species from photographs and provides educational and conservation information.
Summary
- You do not need an account, and we do not ask for your name, phone number, or other profile information.
- A photo is sent for processing only when you choose to identify a turtle.
- We use the photo only to provide the identification result. We do not use submitted photos for advertising or sell them.
- VNTurtle does not contain third-party advertising or use advertising trackers.
- You can browse species and conservation information without submitting a photo.
Information We Process
Photos You Choose to Submit
When you use the identification feature, you may take a new photo, choose a photo from your device, or provide an image URL. The selected image is uploaded to our server and sent to our hosted artificial-intelligence model so that the Service can return an identification result.
We do not intentionally retain submitted images after the identification request has been processed, and submitted images are not added to a training dataset through the current Service. The image may remain temporarily in device memory, network buffers, or service-provider systems as technically necessary to transmit and process the request.
Please do not submit an image containing people, documents, addresses, precise location details, or other personal or sensitive information. Image files can contain metadata; your device or operating system may remove some metadata before upload, but you should not rely on this.
Camera and Photo-Library Access
The mobile app may request permission to use your camera or access photos so that you can select an image. Access occurs only after you initiate that feature and grant permission. VNTurtle does not continuously access your camera or photo library. You can deny or revoke these permissions in your device settings, although the related image-selection option will then be unavailable.
Technical Information
When you connect to the Service, our hosting and infrastructure providers may automatically process limited technical information needed to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the Service, such as IP address, device or browser type, operating system, request time, and error or security logs. We use this information for operation, security, abuse prevention, and debugging—not for advertising or cross-app tracking.
How We Use Information
We process information only as needed to:
- Analyze a submitted image and return a turtle-identification result.
- Operate, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the Service.
- Prevent misuse and protect the Service and its users.
- Comply with applicable law and valid legal requests.
Service Providers and Disclosure
We use service providers to host the website, application backend, network infrastructure, and artificial-intelligence model. Identification images are transmitted to our hosted model for processing. These providers may process images and technical information on our behalf to provide their services.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share information for targeted or behavioral advertising. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger, reorganization, or transfer of the Service, subject to this Policy and applicable law.
The Service may link to external websites, news sources, or social-media pages. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Policy.
Retention
VNTurtle does not intentionally store submitted images after processing. Short-lived copies may exist while a request is being transmitted or processed. Technical and security logs maintained by us or our providers may be retained for a limited period according to operational, security, and legal needs. We retain correspondence you send us for as long as reasonably necessary to respond and keep appropriate records.
Your Choices and Rights
You can use the Service without creating an account. You may choose not to submit a photo, deny camera or photo access, remove photo metadata before submission, or stop using the Service.
Because we do not create user accounts or intentionally retain submitted images, we generally cannot identify or retrieve a past submission. Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection. Contact us to make a request. We may need enough information to verify and locate the relevant record.
Children’s Privacy
The Service is educational and is not directed specifically to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted personal information should contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information. However, no internet transmission or electronic system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy when the Service or legal requirements change. We will post the revised Policy here and update the date above. Material changes will be communicated through the Service when appropriate.
